CITY GUIDE: STOCKHOLM

We only spent two short days in Stockholm but here are some things we did that I think are musts for your own Stockholm trip! I definitely plan to return to Stockholm in the future so I will make sure to add to the list!

where to eat

  • Meatballs for the People - if you're only going to go to one restaurant, let it be this one. These were hands down the best meatballs I've ever tasted! They have everything from vegetarian meatballs to rarer meatballs made from bear and reindeer for the more adventurous eaters. This spot is really popular so be prepared to wait for a table especially if you're more than 2 people. But trust me, it'll be worth the wait!

  • K25 - I love eating at food halls when I'm in Europe and this one did not disappoint. There are so many great options like ramen, curry, and the most delicious roast chicken. And food halls are great for when you're traveling with a larger group because everyone can pick something different! Plenty of seating available and I especially liked the booths towards the back for bigger groups.

museums

  • Vasa museum - one of the coolest museums I've been to! It's dedicated to a HUGE salvaged 17th-century ship. It's so impressive seeing the ship from different levels and perspectives and the interactive exhibits were so fun!

  • Skansen - an outdoor museum with houses and buildings from all over Sweden! Really cool to get a look into how people lived in the past. There are also a bunch of animals scattered around the park so it's like a zoo as well. It's a very large park so prepare to do a lot of walking!

  • National Museum - beautiful museum with some incredible Swedish pieces. I especially loved the portion that takes you through the different periods of Swedish art.

shopping

  • Hötorgets loppmarknad - if you're in Stockholm on a Sunday, check out the flea martket! There were so many tables full of trinkets and amazing pieces. I was tempted to buy some antiques for my home but I didn't have any luggage space haha

  • HUMANA Second Hand - if you love thrifting, check out this chain. There are a ton of thrift stores all over Stockholm but this was one of the cheaper ones we went to.

  • Vintage Lounge - another cool little thrift store we went to. So many trinkets it almost felt like being inside a small museum.

other things to do

  • Walk around Ostermalm - really cute little neighborhood and much less busy than Gamla Stan. You can get some cute pictures in front of their colorful houses without the crowds. I recommend this cute little walking trail if you have the time.

tips

  • you don't need to have cash - even at the flea market, most vendors had a tap to pay option
